Co-sleeping, Cribs & Pack-n-plays

My youngest daughter used to be the best sleeper in the world then our Christmas vacation to Nana's and the big move coincided all at once. Here's the problem- she won't sleep at all in a crib or pack-n-play or bed unless someone is laying down with her! It all started when we arrived at my parents house over Christmas. She would SCREAM forever well it seemed like forever. And the grandparents couldn't bare to hear her crying so they would put her in their bed.  Then she wouldn't take naps, so someone would lay down with her.  Then my hubby and I had to leave the kids for 2 weeks so we could finish packing up our stuff in Texas, meanwhile baby girl refused to sleep unless someone was laying down with her.  I get back and try try to "fix" the problem.  Since she wasn't sleeping in the crib, we took it down and put up the pack-n-play. The little stinker figured out how to climb out of it- NONE of my other children EVER climbed out of the crib or pack -n- play.  So now I am stuck co-sleeping with my 19 month old.  It's horrible, really, why any one would enjoy sleeping with their children is beyond me! I can't sleep for fear of rolling over on her, or that she might get caught under the covers, etc.  What am I to do???  I am tired, and I would like to get her back to being the good sleeper that she was.  Any suggestions?

Come back to the Lone star state... ;) Just kidding...

My youngest is liking to be rocked before bed and just before he falls asleep we put him in his bed. Yesterday at nap time, he threw a fit but I just shut his door and told him he was to stay put...it seemed to work.

However at night, it started all over, so nope no "real" answer - except stick with it and eventually they will go off to college. ;)

Blessings to you,

We co-sleep and I love it, but I know that everyone is different.

Maybe putting the crib mattress on the floor next to you and laying down there with her until she falls asleep would be an easy first step for you both, then you could transition her back to a toddler bed, or a mattress on the floor in her own room.

Happy SITS Sharefest Day! We had the same problem when my son was younger. We moved him to a regular bed (with side rails) and laid with him until he went to sleep then we would move to our bed. After awhile, we started only laying down until we were done reading and then singing to him from the floor next to the bed.

Gradually we worked our way out the door. Good luck! I know how hard it is to sleep with a little body in bed with you!

I was just lamenting, the other day, that my toddler had never, not once, in his entire life...fallen asleep in my bed or on the couch or anywhere other than his bed. I so want to snuggle with him as he sleeps but he just isnt having it.

After reading your post I think I should be careful what I wish for...because I forgot how hard it was to get my oldest OUT of my bed a decade ago!

Have a great weekend!
