Memories of Grandparents

I was thinking about my Grandparents last night, and all the memories I have of them, and how different they were. My Grandparents on my Dad's side were the best! They were the kind of Grandparents every kids loves to spend time with. My Grandmother passed away when I was twelve, but there are so many things I remember about her. She loved Bingo! She always had the glass Pepsi bottles in the fridge and always had Cheese Puffs to go with it, and there was always a jar of those soft peppermint candies that look like pepto bismol, ready for you to eat. As kids we always got to go to our Grandparents apartment when my parents went grocery shopping, and we got to watch T.V. usually the A-team (we didn't have cable when I was little so this was a treat), and we played Atari. My Grandfather passed away 2 years ago, but some of my memories of him were him doing puzzles all the time, and he would all ways sit outfront of his apartment building and wave to people.
Then there are my Grandparents on my Mom's side.  We have lots because of divorce and remarriage. It's amazing  how different a Grandparent can be.  My mom's mom and husband were the Grandparents we never wanted to see.  Children were meant to be seen and not heard with them, you couldn't sit on the furniture and we weren't allowed to be noisy, basically we couldn't be kids around them!  Then my Mom's Dad and his many wifes were again different.  He would take us out on his boat,  we swam in their pool, etc.  Granted we didn't see this side of the family very often, because of distance, but still they were the kind of Grandparents kids love and I have many memories of them.
Now that I have kids it amazes me that someone wouldn't want to be a Grandparent.  But, that is how it is playing out in my kids lives.  We have my parents, Nana and Goppy, who are THE Grandparents.  The kids love to spend time with them, and will shortly be living with them, when we move.  And then we have my husbands parents, not the Grandparent type.  No calls, no cards, no gifts, basically no acknowledgement that they have Grandkids.  It's amazing how resilent kids are, this doesn't bother them, most likely because they are still little.  But I hope, that like me, they grow up and can remember as many memories of their Grandparents that they can.
